FAQs

What is a Virtual Challenge?

It’s like a traditional race, but it takes place in a location and time of your choice during the week between 5pm Friday, March 27 and 7pm April 5. Walk, jog or run wherever you may be, and at any time in that week, for a 1/2 marathon or 10K distance. You choose the starting line and route, and when you’ve completed your distance, visit this link to check in with your results. After you’ve completed the challenge, we’ll send your congratulatory race swag.

Why did you switch to a Virtual Challenge?

The looming COVID-19 was on the horizon when we first announced we would not be able to host an on-site race event, out of abundant concern for the safety of the residents here at Garden Spot Village. We thought this was still a good opportunity to honor your hard work and training this season. We all run for different reasons, and we still wanted to give runners the option of completing the miles, getting the swag, and participating (albeit with some distance) in something together.

If I run the Virtual Challenge will I qualify for a Road Apple Award?

Yes, you will! Participation in the Garden Spot Village Virtual 1/2 Marathon qualifies you to earn the coveted Road Apple Award. Run the Bird-in-Hand 1/2 Marathon September 12, 2020 and receive your very own Road Apple Award. Available only in Lancaster County, Pa.

Should I come to the Garden Spot Campus?

Please don’t! We are doing our best to protect our older adult-residents and staff from COVID-19, and visitor access is extremely limited. You should complete your registered distance on your own, on the route of your choice. Be safe out there nonetheless.

Where am I allowed to run?

Feel free to choose your own starting line and the course that corresponds to your registered race distance. Additionally, you can complete your miles on the treadmill if you wish.

Do I have to run on March 28, 2020?

Nope. Are you a daybreak runner? Feel free to set out as the sun is peeking over the trees. Rather go out and enjoy the sun at it’s height? Go for it. Want to get your miles in after work on a Friday, to free up your weekend? Awesome. Complete your miles sometime between 5pm on Friday, March 27 and 7pm on Sunday, April 5, to log your challenge accomplishment.

What is the 2021 Date?

The GSV 1/2 Marathon and 10K will be held Saturday, March 27, 2021.

If I defer to 2021, what do I need to do?

If you choose to defer your current race registration to 2021, then you would select that option on the online form. Within two weeks, you should receive a confirmation email for your 2021 race registration as we process all the registrants who are choosing to go that route. Please be patient, as we need to handle each individual request separately.

If I asked for a refund, when will I get it?

If you registered through ACTIVE, and paid for your registration by credit card, we will be able to refund your card through ACTIVE, which typically takes a week or less to credit. If you paid by check or cash, then the refund will have to be done through our finance department at Garden Spot Village, in which case could take 1-2 weeks. Please be patient, as we need to handle each individual refund separately.

What SWAG do I get if I Run the Virtual Challenge?

You will receive your finisher’s medal, race bib, commemorative t-shirt, race t-shirt, race headscarf, sunglasses, and some goodies.

When will I receive my Virtual Challenge SWAG?

We will be packing and shipping the contents of your race pack within two weeks of you finishing your challenge. Please allow for shipping times depending on where you live.
