Gels are a very personal thing. As all experienced long-distance runners know, you want to use the gels you’ve trained with. Use a gel you haven’t trained with and there’s a good chance you’re going to feel sick which takes the fun out of your run.
We’ve tried a variety of approaches over the years with gels at the water stations and very few get used. We hear that same sentiment from other races. It seems to us the money we would have to spend on gels would be put to much better use in the Recovery Tent and other areas of the race.
Drinks will be available at all the water stations; however, there will not be gels. Our experience indicates that runners generally carry the gels they trained with and we encourage you to do the same.
